About My Clients
My clients are women of color from the ages of 18-65, who are motivated to do the work of therapy. They are looking to learn new coping mechanisms to deal with anxiety, depression, relationship issues and stress. These women might be facing large and potentially unexpected life transitions, such as a job change, a large move, or a transition to postpartum life. These women also want to examine their past traumas through a lens of self-compassion to understand their present circumstances.
My Background and Approach
I’m a Caribbean-American wife, mother, postpartum depression survivor, and postpartum preeclampsia survivor. I am also Hard-of-Hearing and wear hearing aids. In a session with me, you can expect to feel seen, heard, and challenged. As we get to know one another, we can discover what no longer serves you and introduce new coping mechanisms. I take a collaborative and integrative approach in the counseling space by incorporating spiritual practices such as prayer; and mindfulness-based therapeutic modalities like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into sessions. Together, we can co-create your mental health goals within reasonable time frames and actionable objectives.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Christian, I know that through Christ and only Christ, sin and death, killing and destruction, are but a breath. His promises for abundant life are not just for some far-off land called "eternity," they are for right now. I am excited to be among a generation of culturally competent counselors who are dedicated to clients’ holistic health and wellness regardless of religion, gender presentation, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. We, especially as women of color, are uniquely and profoundly affected by the stress of fast-paced metropolitan living and various systemic issues. The ancient practices of meditation and somatic therapies can aid in the reintegration of body and mind in the midst of these stressors.
