I am a therapist and human being who believes strongly in the intrinsic power and resilience of my clients and community.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in South Burlington, VT
I am an existential/humanistic psychotherapist- meaning I am of the orientation that most anxiety is caused by concern or worry that is rooted in how we do or don't make sense of our own humanity- and our disconnect from our meaning and purpose in this world. When treating people with anxiety I support them in exploring their experiences and seeking ways to define their meaning from these experiences. Additionally I utilize behavioral therapies to support brief relief in the short term.
ADHD/ADD is a complicated, misunderstood, and often ignored diagnosis by clinicians. In my work, with people who are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, I keep this important part of their life and experience front and center. My approach supports people in identifying ways that neurodivergence has impacted their life. What messages have we learned about ourselves? What invisible ways have our differences impacted our understandings of relationships? I support people in challenging these narratives
I have a passion for supporting people diagnosed with OCD. What can be a debilitating and hopeless situation can be met with a strong tool in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP.) This is an evidence based, exposure therapy, that has been found to be extremely efficacious in extinguishing rituals but reducing anxiety as well. If you are interested in taking control of your OCD, I am interested in meeting you!
Underneath it all I see myself as a human- one who struggles and has struggled with the same fears that all humans have struggled with- mortality, isolation, our freedom to make choices, and our ultimate meaninglessness in a universe that is indifferent. I believe then that it is critical as a therapist to support people in finding their own meaning and purpose; and that they can trust themselves to make that decision.
I utilize exposure therapies when working with people who are diagnosed with OCD. I have trained with UPENN's Center For the Study and Treatment of Anxiety, who are the leading researchers and practitioners of exposure response prevention- an evidence based and extreme efficacious treatment modality.
