About My Clients
Growing up between cultures can leave you feeling like a misfit, never fully at home in any space. Even when you appear to have it all together, that deep sense of alienation can linger. If you’ve struggled to feel like you belong—whether at home, school, or work—or find it hard to connect with others, you’re not alone.
My Background and Approach
Meet Monica, a mental health therapist whose rich cross-cultural upbringing fuels her passion for creating an inclusive and culturally responsive space. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Monica brings a wealth of experience from diverse therapeutic contexts, supporting individuals and couples of various ages, backgrounds, and relationship styles. Her deep appreciation for the intricate interplay between mental health and the unique experiences of 1.5 and 2nd-generation immigrants is central to her work. Monica tailors her approach by integrating various therapeutic modalities based on each client’s unique needs, including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a therapist, I value integrity, innovation, and intentionality, while also emphasizing agency, empowerment, and integration. I’m passionate about supporting Third Culture Kids and first- and second-generation immigrants, helping them navigate the unique challenges of belonging, adjustment, and identity formation. I approach therapy through a psychodynamic lens, blending EMDR and IFS-informed techniques, always with a holistic and culturally sensitive perspective. Outside of therapy, my creativity—whether through painting, music, or photography—fuels my ability to think expansively. My experiences living on three continents inspire my curiosity and guide my culturally attuned and holistic approach.
