About My Clients

Relationships of all kinds are meant to be rewarding, and I believe through our work this is realistic. This means less intense/frequent arguments and faster, more consistent repairs. This means devoting time and energy to filling up our metaphorical wells of love so that we are able to wash out the sludge when it inevitably comes. It also means developing coping skills, connecting with resources, and gaining insights about yourself/others because life is not something you go through unassisted.

My Background and Approach

As the child of two psychologists, I am undoubtedly influenced by both of them. Although I tried to differentiate (and trust me I tried, I majored in economics in college!), I could not resist having the two same specialty focus areas of child/adolescent assessment and couples/family therapy. I am also forever indebted to my two primary mentors Dr. Tim Dea and Dr. Wendy Cowperthwaite. I began working with both psychologists during my first year of graduate school and have been impressed with and try to emulate their deep love, care, and empathy for the people they work with. Dr. Tim Dea taught me to work with couples from an Emotional Focused and Gottman lens and supervised cases including infidelity, high-conflict marriages and parenting concerns. Dr. Wendy Cowperthwaite taught me the narrative approach to writing assessments, the strengths-based approach to assessment administration, and the art of the feedback session. All of these factors are heavily influential in my work.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Fulfilling, secure relationships are attainable and take consistent, dedicated work. My job is to be the training wheels on your metaphorical bicycle and assist you in launching toward your goals. Whether you are coming in looking to improve communication skills or on the brink of a breakup or a family meltdown, I strongly believe it is never too early or too late to start therapy. These same sentiments also apply to my work in assessments. Through all of my testing, I’m looking for strengths, thus I feel just as confident working with disruptive children with behavioral issues as people who are more generally looking for missing pieces to a puzzle. My keyword is collaboration and I will do everything possible to make sure the information I provide you with is clear, digestible, and actively useful.
