About My Clients
Many individuals within this population suffer with mood disorders, anxiety, school & sport performance stress, identity crisis, family conflict, and low self-esteem due to familial/societal expectations and competitive culture. As a child, teenager, or parent, managing all these life stressors can take a toll on our mental health. My hope as a therapist is to make clients feel safe to process these struggles, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and improve their social/ family relationships.
My Background and Approach
I mainly uses humanistic therapy and meet where the client is at. Based on the client’s goals of treatment, Monica implements various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She also uses creative forms of therapy, play therapy, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness. I am also trained in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy by Dr. Norma Barretta, MA, PhD who is clinical psychologist and well-known hypnotherapist that has over 70 years of experience in psychology. Dr. Barretta studied personally with Milton Erickson, a pioneer in psychology. Monica is able to provide hypnotherapy to her clients in any presenting problem such as sleep disorders, panic, stress, grief, and much more.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a half Filipina/ half White and a woman of color, I understand how racial identity is complicated and impacts the way we live in this world. My goal as a therapist is to make anyone feel welcome and talk about their culture openly. I always take inconsideration of a person's culture and system they live in before diagnosing. I believe providing a safe space to process grief, intergenerational trauma, fear, discrimination, etc. .are all crucial parts of therapy.
