Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in SAN DIEGO, CA
Aside from my private practice, I am Co-Director of Narrative Initiatives San Diego (aka NISD Counseling) where we train future Narrative Therapists. I appreciate Narrative Therapy for its social justice orientation, cultural humility and non-pathologizing views of people. I strive to be de-centered yet influential in my work with clients, meaning that I am not the expert of your life - you are. I have been practicing from this orientation since 2011.
I often use Brief SFT with my EAP clients who have a specific issue they are addressing in order to return to work. I take a pragmatic approach to helping my clients consider options that are in-line with their values, worldview and hopes for the future. We meet regularly to track their "progress", keep hope alive, and to hold them "accountable" with the commitments they make in therapy.
I enjoy working with female clients to help empower them to pursue the life they want. Sometimes this means strengthening or ending a relationship, re-evaluating goals, and often it means confronting and overcoming societal pressures and expectations that do not fit for them. I run several women's support groups throughout the year. Currently I am offering these groups online, contact me if you are interested in joining one.
I work with many couples and families of various cultural backgrounds and configurations -- helping clients to clarify their needs & expectations, manage different communications styles, negotiate compromises, resolve conflict, and gain greater insight into their values and hopes for the future.
Having worked in corporate America for two decades I am very familiar with the stress and burn-out that many professionals face. I enjoy working with clients to find meaning in their careers or make professional transitions so they can feel passionate about what they do for a living.
