I have been married for 25 years and have been on both sides of the therapy table regarding couples counseling. I believe that marriage counseling can be for any issue, whether small or large. My approach is to meet with the couple to see where they are currently in their relationship and where they want to end up. Sometimes a partnership needs outside help to have difficult conversations and to move forward in their relationship.
You might struggle with codependency if you find yourself having difficulty knowing where you end and where other people begin. I love to work with people and help them identify who they are, separate from the others in their lives. Figuring out that you are only truly responsible for yourself in relationships helps everyone involved grow and experience more positive relationships.
I have been a part of the foster and adoption community and know how important it is to have someone you can talk to who understands what you are going through without explaining everything. Adoption is a beautiful and challenging experience. It is my pleasure to work with others growing their family through adoption.
Thankfully there are many approaches to helping with mental health issues. I am happy to pull from any resource and learning that will assist my client.
Relationships are constantly growing and changing. Navigating these changes together can be a challenge. So I come alongside couples and add an objective third party to the conversation to help gain perspective.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy works with the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We often need help changing our thoughts so we can change our behaviors. CBT is a great way to expose people to their thinking that may not be helping them and then teach new ways to approach life.
