Adolescents have big emotions that they may not know how to handle or express appropriately and they aren’t usually forthcoming with parents; I mean know I wasn’t. Therapy provides a space where adolescents feel heard and feel in control while being open to express and explore their struggles. If they don’t want to talk to me, fine. That is why I have art, music, and creative writing.

It can be hard to describe a feeling as heavy as depression. I like to encourage and problem solve as symptoms or issues related to depression arise. Some days are hard and others have glimpses of light in them. Let us use a magnifying glass on the light so you can nurture it and help it grow. And if you don’t have the words or have run out of words, there is art. The act of creating and using a different part of your brain can be relieving and provides new insights.

My passion is art. Art is more than trying to draw realistic images and making a product worth selling. Art is a way of processing symptoms, life events, relationships, and anything else in a visual way. Art incorporates the senses and allows us to interact with our emotions and thoughts in a new way. I support clients with artmaking by providing art techniques, themes, and support with interpreting their own art. Come create with me and see for yourself.

Harm reduction is acknowledging and respecting that progress and expectations are individual based. I collaborate with the individual to recognize starting point and finding smaller, realistic steps to work towards what they define as their goal. In practice this means not pushing for "quitting cold turkey" on any vices or maladaptive coping skills, but instead working to maintain safety and reducing the harmful affects on your body, relationships, and life.

We live in an individualistic society and therapy should reflect this. I believe in the uniqueness of individuals and veer away from one size fits all (metaphorically and literally). Sessions are based on what the client (you) bring to the table. As the therapist, I witness, observe, reflect, and support. It is all about the relationship: a therapeutic relationship where you can experience trust, safety, consistency, and non-judgement.
