About My Clients
As a queer therapist, I work with clients all along the gender and sexuality spectrums, including cis straight clients as well. Folks I work with often want to build stronger relationships, and are looking for help learning self-soothing skills, identifying and navigating their triggers, expressing their needs, and showing themselves kindness.
My Background and Approach
My therapy style is gentle and collaborative, and emphasizes your strengths. I take a nonjudgmental approach that is based around meeting you where you are. I also have a warm sense of humor and enjoy injecting that into our conversations. We will lean into the vulnerability underneath tough emotions and cultivate compassion for the strategies you’ve used throughout your life for trying to get your needs met. To do this, I often pull from Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts-work, inner child explorations, attachment theory to discuss childhood experiences, and somatic, body-based approaches. These techniques can help us flush out what's really going on under the surface, and to give voice to past hurts that might be arising and needing some tenderness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Before entering this field, I worked in politics and advocacy. I continue to view mental health and resilience as deeply intertwined with social justice — both because injustice creates trauma, and because our determination to heal can elevate both ourselves and our larger communities. A powerful part of this healing involves practicing the radical act of self-compassion, as well as acknowledging and making friends with our sacred rage. For too long, survivors and marginalized persons have been told their anger is their enemy, but it can actually be a key entry way for healing. It is my honor to create a safe, contained space during our sessions where all of your complex emotions are welcome to join and become a part of the journey forward.
