Accepting Clients

People seek counseling for many reasons. Regardless of your reason, it is a brave and vulnerable step to take and I’m glad you’re here.

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Raleigh, NC

About My Clients

I strive to achieve an authentic and empathic relationship with my clients. My role is to assist you in reaching the goals you have for yourself by providing safe and non-judgmental support, and helping you to exercise your own strengths, rather than to give you advice. I also incorporate mindfulness into my work. Mindfulness is an evidence-based way to help alleviate many symptoms and self-limiting thoughts/behaviors.

My Background and Approach

My general approach is person-centered and hinges on the belief that you are your own expert. I have done a lot of work with young and emerging adults, and have felt privileged to accompany them on their journeys of identity and self-discovery. Suffering with anxiety, depression, or thoughts of self-harm can derail these journeys and negatively impact the quality of your life. My approach is to help you find solutions to your problems by creating a safe and healing environment in which to nurture the self-understanding you need to continue down the path of your life. I aspire to help my clients acquire the wisdom necessary to understand their problems and be able to set goals to help alleviate them.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

People often say, “Everything happens for a reason.” I prefer to believe that the universe is unfolding the way it is supposed to, and I think that people make their own reasons and significance for what happens to them. I believe that by supporting my clients in their personal search for meaning, I can help them accept what they cannot control and, in turn, this acceptance will bring peace. Reaching out for help requires courage. Most people in crisis do not feel particularly courageous but I believe that a genuine therapeutic connection can encourage a client to take appropriate risks in order to effect change for themselves. I believe that my authenticity as a person is an essential tool for building that effective therapeutic relationship. I also believe that dogs > cats, and I have a certified therapy dog that can be available for consultation.
