About My Clients
I specialize in issues including anxiety, depression, sports and work performance, managing public life, life transitions, identity development, family and relationship conflict, racial issues, and spiritual/religious confusion. I also have a unique specialization in sport and performance psychology, most recently serving as the Director of Mental Performance for the NFL's Chicago Bears prior to entering private practice.
My Background and Approach
I use a multidisciplinary approach integrating treatment interventions from multiple therapeutic orientations. My overall goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness and self-efficacy through learning to study the impact of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors on your life. We'll also teach skills for developing and maintaining resiliency to help you maintain your progress over time. My communication style is relatable, direct, honest, and compassionate. I work very hard to ensure my client's feel comfortable conversing with me and learning skills they can actually apply beyond our weekly sessions. I understand that life is lived in the real world, not our appointments. Thus, it is very important that, over time, my clients feel they are building an effective toolkit for coping and thriving at life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Life is a skill, not just an experience or series of things that happens to us. Our quality of life is often determined by our ability to effectively manage our internal (i.e. things we are impacted by happening inside of us) and external (i.e. things we are impacted by happening outside of us) experiences, much of which is skill-based (e.g. mental, emotional, behavioral regulation). In many cases, nobody ever sat us down and taught us how to manage our adult lives. Most of us are simply doing what we know and the best we can with what we have! Individual therapy is the place you can acquire these skills under the guidance of a trained professional.
