About My Clients
Does life often seem challenging? Is stress your constant companion? Imagine what it would be like if you felt calm and capable and were able to face difficulties with increased confidence in yourself. Working on yourself in therapy can help you achieve your goals and find more peace . Do you have a harsh inner voice that constantly makes you feel like you are not good enough? My goal is to help change the way you treat yourself so you can be calmer and happier on a daily basis.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!) with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1983 and from Wayne State University in 1985 with my Master’s degree in Social Work. I have been practicing for over 35 years and have worked in medical and mental health settings. I consider it a privilege to work with people who are struggling with difficult life challenges. We live in a chaotic world where individuals are often not truly heard and understood. I have worked extensively with trauma, self esteem, grief and loss. Our work together will be based on empathy, trust and respect. Asking for help can be a difficult and frightening process. For most, this means talking about difficult feelings that may have been kept inside for a long time. I strive to create a safe space where individuals can take a breath and be accepted for who they are and where they are at in that moment.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe strongly in the resilience of the human spirit and that people can recover from tragedies and traumas. My personal story has involved many ups and downs and I have sought out my own help which I believe makes me more able to connect and understand. I love animals and believe they are one of the purest forms of therapy. I am a huge University of Michigan fan but I won't hold it against you if you don't root for the wolverines!
