Hello! My name is Michelle and I provide individual therapy for people struggling with romantic relationship issues.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Lynnwood, WA
I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and have led DBT groups for over 5 years. In my individual work with clients, I will occasionally discuss DBT skills and believe that DBT skills can be helpful in managing stress, regulating overwhelming emotions, and improving communication.
I find attachment theory fascinating and discuss it frequently in sessions with my clients. When you are able to understand your attachment style, it helps you learn how to notice when you're being triggered by feelings of abandonment, how to self-soothe, and seek out healthier relationships with others.
First and foremost, I believe the therapeutic relationship is based on trust and rapport. I prioritize listening to my clients discussing their concerns instead of being directive by trying out different exercises/techniques in session or assigning homework.
I am well-versed in supporting people with a variety of relationship issues, including communication challenges, differing values/beliefs, co-dependency, the effects of addiction, and co-parenting. I also specifically help people understand how their personal trauma and/or their partner's trauma influence their current relationship.
I work with many clients going through the divorce process and understand how tricky it can be to navigate the logistics of separation and the grief that comes along with it.
I have worked with clients on both sides of the affair (those who have engaged/are engaging in an affair and those whose partners had/are having an affair). If you are the one who engaged in the affair (or are still engaging in the affair), you may be facing a lot of shame and judgement from society for your actions, but you won't find that with me. If your partner had the affair and you're struggling to recover from it, I want to support you in your emotional pain and deciding what to do next.
