About My Clients
Navigating new parenthood can be a challenge and no one can really prepare you for it no matter how much they try. It is hard and everyone has their own unique experience with it. Sometimes, having an ear to talk to who is not in your immediate circle can be helpful. If you are trying to prevent an onset of a perinatal disorder, or you already deal with anxiety or depression, or you find that parenthood just isn't what it's cracked up to be, I'm here to help.
My Background and Approach
I have worked with the perinatal population specifically for 3 years now and earned my certificate in perinatal mental health counseling form Postpartum Support International. I have worked with anxiety disorders for several more years and find that many new parents experience a level of anxiety specific to this time. As such, I also earned my certificate as clinical anxiety treatment professional. Using CBT is the gold standard for anxiety treatment, but there are no cookie cutter approaches. Your experience is unique to you and working with you to identify what isn't working helps us to create a treatment plan to find what actually does work for you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have four children of my own and I had limited support after my first baby. Being predisposed to depression and anxiety on my maternal side made first time motherhood hard! It doesn't get better by yourself and I learned that the hard way. Now that I've taken up education specifically in this arena, I could tell the new mom-me from years ago to get help and offer ideas of things to try. Perinatal work is my passion and it pleases me to no end to help new parents find themselves again, engage in a little bit of positive selfishness, and be the best parents they can be.
