Having suffered through grief and loss myself, I can understand what one might go through during this difficult time in their life. I have received training on grief counseling through coursework and additional readings on the subject.
As part of my coursework to obtain my degree, I completed an internship with a crisis counseling hotline in my area. We received training on how to work with those that may be feeling suicidal and resources and tools they can use at the difficult time of their life. By having the right tools and resources, a person can get to a positive space and begin the focus on moving through the thoughts and feelings that may be causing them to feel like suicide may be the only option.
Stress can be overwhelming. Everyone has been stressed at one point or another. There are different things that one can do in order to alleviate their stress even if it is only for a short time and allows one to get past that event and onto another. Some things I find helpful to manage stress include mindfulness as well as meditation and keeping a journal.
I enjoy being able to assist clients in recognizing negative thinking and finding ways to change those thoughts around and using them positively.
The ability to use multiple skills from various methods of counseling is beneficial to clients as it provides more opportunities for a client to address what is troubling them.
Therapy is about the client being able to guide the discussion and without that person, Therapy would not happen. I believe in letting the client decide where they want to go and helping them to navigate their path to resolving things that may be causing them trouble.
