About My Clients
I work especially with Asian American and multicultural adults, LGBTQ+ clients, professionals, and people with immigrant, international, expatriate, or third-culture backgrounds. Many of my clients appear capable or successful on the outside but feel anxious, self-critical, disconnected, or stuck in recurring patterns in relationships, work, or family life.
My Background and Approach
My approach is psychodynamic, relational, trauma-informed, and multicultural. Therapy is collaborative and in-depth, with attention to both current concerns and the emotional, relational, family, and cultural patterns that may help explain why certain difficulties keep repeating. Together, we may explore anxiety, relationship patterns, perfectionism, self-esteem, identity, sexuality, family expectations, work stress, and belonging. I also draw from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, attachment, and other integrative approaches when helpful, while keeping a broader focus on insight, emotional growth, and lasting change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a gay Asian American male psychologist with an international and multicultural background, I bring both lived and professional experience to questions of identity, culture, sexuality, family, and belonging. Before coming to the U.S. for college and graduate school, I lived in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Taiwan. In addition to English, I am proficient in Mandarin Chinese and understand Hakka, Hokkien/Taiwanese, and Cantonese.
