About My Clients
Perhaps you're feeling a bit unsettled with where your life is right now, or you feel like the way you've been doing things isn't working. Maybe you feel like your mind gives you things that aren't always helpful and that get in the way of you being effective. Are you sabotaging things by using chemicals/substances or self-harming in some big or small way? Many of my clients struggle with self-esteem, identity, or spiritual/philosophical problems.
My Background and Approach
I use my background in philosophy to help expand clients identify their values and take an active approach in observing their own thought processes in order to discern what is helpful and what isn't. I introduce my clients from the beginning to the concept of being present in their lives in order for them to "better feel" rather than exhausting themselves with trying to avoid discomfort. My therapeutic approach involves motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy, and is rounded off with a Jungian approach. The therapeutic relationship serves as a catalyst for change. Thus, my clients can experience change in the session and are able to reflect on this in order to make change in their relationships and behavior outside the office.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a member of the LGBTQ community and a supporter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. I am a firm believer that difficulties we experience are often influenced and complicated by systemic forces. Therefore, I believe each individual person has a responsibility to make an effort to reduce the impact these forces might have on oppressed people. I have spent time training various communities and police departments on mental illness through Mental Health First Aid. I do my best to be cognizant my privilege as a white cisgendered male and believe that until Black lives matter, we cannot say that all lives do.
