About My Clients
My area of focus is on addictions. Being addicted to alcohol or drugs is like being in a dark pit where you do not know what is up and what is down. It is cold and lonely, and you can feel hopeless about finding any escape. Being the family member of a loved one who is struggling with addiction is scary and can leave you sad and in a constant state of uncertainty. Addiction is insidious, but there are paths to recovery. Together, let's find your path!
My Background and Approach
I offer a gentle, accepting environment to assist you or your family navigate issues related to addiction, relationships, life transitions, parenting, or living a fulfilling life as an older adult. I will work collaboratively with you to find ways to address all challenges related to living life on life's terms particularly when dealing with alcohol and drug use, my chosen area of specialization. Together we will come to understand your strengths, develop your ability to access those strengths and gain skills to live a life worth living, to find meaning in your existence. You are the expert on your own life, and my job is to listen for understanding. There are many paths toward overall wellbeing; you and I will work to find what path may be best for you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Sometimes we just need a little bit of a breather to regroup and reflect, to take a moment to find our way through what can be the tumult of daily living. Engaging in therapy can offer that time out; you will have time to talk out and think through your next steps in your quest for wellbeing. It may be helpful for you to simply have an objective, nonjudgmental other so you can test out your ideas about how to live a fulfilling life. For therapy, it is essential that you feel comfortable and trusting of the therapeutic relationship, so it can be beneficial to meet with several therapists to get a sense about if that person is the person with whom you can achieve some level of peace and serenity in living. To that end, I am happy to meet with you for an initial brief consultation to help us decide if we are the team best suited to meet your needs.
