Counselor in Livonia, MI
I have experience as a camp facilitator for boys with ADHD in 2014, experience working with and diagnosing children with ADHD, including exposure to assessments such as the Vanderbilt assessment to determine if a child has ADHD, as well as counseling and consulting with teachers and clients in both the school, home and outpatient settings with ADHD. I have also taken several college-level courses on ADHD and I am in the process of completing a course to be a certified ADHD professional.
My training in graduate school was the utilization of Motivational Interviewing techniques, as well as adapting those techniques to working with adolescents and helping them gain greater insight into their struggles.
Growing up I studied the works of Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, and consider humanistic or person-centered therapy to be my main theoretical orientation. I treat each and everyone of my clients as someone more than just their diagnosis, but a person who is trying to self-actualize and become the best person they can be. I take a holistic approach to therapy.
I utilize CBT techniques such as cognitive reframing, relaxation skills and behavioral activation. I don't have advanced training in CBT, however, I have an understanding of the techniques as developed through trainings, undergraduate and graduate courses, and textbooks on CBT, as well as direct experience applying these techniques to my counseling work.
