About My Clients

While I feel comfortable working with a wide variety of people, I find myself gravitating towards working with three main focuses: LGBTQ+ individuals, neurodiversity, and self described "gamers." I find these groups in particular have unique needs within them, and I identify as part of these groups myself. I find it important to create a space where people are safe to be their authentic selves without fear or judgment.

My Background and Approach

I have close to a decade of experience in the mental health field, and have worked with folks in every stage of the recovery journey. I currently hold an LMHCA license in the state of Washington, as well as I am a Board Certified Music Therapist, and so I like to bring the creative arts in as much as possible. I would describe my approach as primarily existential and humanistic. I believe there is a lot to be said for feeling connected with our sense of meaning and purpose in our life, and that we are free to uncover and develop our own meaning. Along with that, I see one of the purposes of therapy as a space to explore one's sense of meaning, and to discover more about ourselves as we grow. I also tend to be less structured and more non-directive. You are the expert in your life. I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I will walk with you while we discover it together.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I find being an active part of social justice is a crucial part of my being. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and am likewise active with disability rights and neurodivergent rights communities due to my own experiences. I make a point to be aware that being a cis, white male-presenting person can cause an inherent feeling of unsafety in the therapy setting. I am committed to doing everything I can to be aware of, and minimize, power differentials, as well as a commitment to using my inherent privilege to disrupt a system that currently harms others. I am committed to listening more than talking, and to doing the emotional labor myself, when possible.
