About My Clients
I specialize in working with couples and intimate relationships on communication skills, managing emotions, intimacy, and more. I also work with individuals on a variety of issues like depression, anxiety, minority stress, and self-esteem. I place high priority on the impact that society can have on marginalized groups. Helping people live authentically is central to my therapeutic approach.
My Background and Approach
I am Level 2 trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and it is my primary focus. I have recently completed Brainspotting phase 1. I also use narrative, solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. My goal is to understand my clients' needs and apply the skills that will work best for them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people are at their best when they are able to live a life that is true to an authentic sense of self. Unfortunately, we live in an oppressive world that prevents this from being a reality for many of us. As a Black man, I am viscerally familiar with being victimized on a societal level. I am a cis, het man, so I don't have lived experience as a queer person. However, I am surrounded by queer and trans folks in my personal and professional life. Some examples include celebrating my partner's pansexuality and volunteering my time as treasurer of the Queer and Trans Advocacy Network. On a less serious note, I believe people who are in touch with their childlikeness are happier people. For me, that means being a huge nerd! Marvel, Star Wars, and Pokemon are just a few of my favorites. I also enjoy "normal" things like pizza and craft beer.
