About My Clients
My clients are often high-achievers who are burning-out trying to keep-up. Often, they may have events from their past that are impacting their ability to remain in the present. These may be single incident traumas, complex relational trauma, or burnout from their day to day life. The majority of my clients are women and/or LGBTQIA-identifying people. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with healthcare professionals of all varieties!
My Background and Approach
My training was based upon a psychodynamic perspective, essentially meaning your past impacts who you are today. For this reason, our work will involve addressing your current challenges, as well as your past patterns and experiences. My style is relaxed, but based on proven methods and modalities. I don’t believe therapy has to be a formal, cumbersome process, but should be tailored to your likes/dislikes and learning style. I will always seek to build a relationship that feels comfortable and safe, but where we can challenge each other. I have experience across modalities, from EMDR to DBT, and many other acronyms. Some of my particular areas of experience are: Complex or single incident trauma, working with healthcare professionals, attachment and relationship concerns, and ADHD. I view therapy as a perfect mix of art and science, and my training reflects a balance of the two.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy is inherently political! And as a social worker, it is within our code of ethics to remain active in the pursuit of social justice. For some, their therapist's personal beliefs are not important, but for many, it's a matter of safety. I place high importance on dignity and autonomy in the therapy process, and that means protecting my clients' privacy, regardless of their identity or diagnoses. In short: anti-racist, pro-lgbtq, anti-oppression, pro-keeping therapy political, but confidential. Additionally, my practice is not based off of any particular religious slant. Having worked with people across the spiritual spectrum, I have borrowed bits and pieces from a multitude of religious texts and practices.
