Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida
I have worked with active military service members and veterans throughout my educational and professional careers. I have studied first-hand the effects of short-term mindfulness treatment programs with active-duty personnel and their spouses. I also earned my Graduate Certificate in Military Social Work through specialized classes (e.g., Combat-related Mental Health Disorders) and a clinical internship at the VA working with veterans diagnosed with spinal cord injuries and disorders.
As a person whose parents immigrated to the United States, I understand how immigration, acculturation, and mental health intersect. I am able to view these experiences from a multiculturally-competent and culturally-sensitive perspective.
Relationships are complex environments where we not only exist individually but also as part of a system. When there is dysfunction within ourselves or the system, it can have definite ripple effects in the other parts. As a social worker, I have worked with families and couples experiencing homelessness, reintegration of a spouse from military to civilian life, caregiver burnout, physical disability, and other major life events.
During my undergraduate career, I worked for 4 years in research studying the effects of mindfulness treatment programs on high-stress groups - active-duty military service members, military spouses, college students, football players, and more. This experience inspired me to become a therapist where I can more directly offer these techniques. I was able to experience how it is delivered, the markers used to track its benefits, and learn from pioneers in the field like Sharon Salzberg.
