About My Clients
Many couples who find me are mostly good together but keep hitting the same few issues. "We keep having the same fight and nothing changes." You might wonder if therapy can even help. I also work with teens and adults struggling with food, body image, and eating disorders, often people who aren't sure it's "bad enough" to ask for help. It is. Whether you come alone or with a partner, no one gets labeled the broken one here. Your moves make sense, and we'll understand them together.
My Background and Approach
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, Maryland, (and soon to come DC, NC, and SC) and the founder of Balanceworks Counseling, a group practice of therapists and a registered dietitians in Arlington. In couples work, we slow down the cycle that keeps you stuck and get underneath the frustration to what each of you needs. Insight alone isn't enough; change comes from feeling safe enough to share it with the person who matters. For eating disorders, I use Radically Open DBT, DBT, and CBT with a weight-neutral, trauma-informed lens, and I coordinate with dietitians and physicians so you have a whole team behind you. I'm also adding couples workshops and intensives for those who want more time to go deep than a 50-minute session allows. I see clients in person in Arlington and by telehealth across Virginia and Maryland.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe relationships are the foundation of everything. When our relationship with ourselves or a partner feels secure, it's easier to work, parent, rest, and care for our health. When it feels shaky, our bodies stay on alert and everything gets harder. I also believe in being understood, not just accepted. Change happens when someone sees you at your hardest moments and it makes sense to them. That's the space I work to create: non-judgmental, collaborative, and honest. I named my practice Balanceworks because we're our best selves when we take care of ourselves, and that goes for therapists too. I built a team that learns together and consults on hard cases, so no one is on their own. Outside the therapy room, I serve on the board of the EFT Community of Hampton Roads, helping bring EFT training to Virginia, and as Supervision Chair for VAMHCA. I'm a mom, and movement and exercise have been part of my own wellbeing for years.
