About My Clients
I might be the therapist for you if you struggle with: being kind to yourself; setting boundaries; depression; the teen years; grief & loss; trauma; life transitions; money stuff; shame & vulnerability; people pleasing & learning to take up space; eldest daughter syndrome; being labeled as "gifted and talented" in elementary school and drowning in perfectionism ever since; existing as a human in our racist, sexist, ableist, heterosexist society
My Background and Approach
My goal with therapy is to create a comfortable space for you to show up as your whole self. My approach is genuine, relational, grounded, and warm, with a healthy dose of humor thrown in for good measure. Our lives can get heavy, and my hope is that our time together can be a chance to put down and unpack some of that weight. I received my Bachelors in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin and my Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I previously worked as a school-based social worker for over six years, and then as a therapist at Austin Teen Therapy for two and a half years. I'm trained in EMDR and am a Certified Financial Social Worker.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that others need to earn the right to hear your story, myself included. I can promise authenticity, empowerment, and respect from me as we build a trusting relationship together. I also want to name that I’m a white, cisgender, able-bodied woman who grew up middle class. I hold a lot of privilege in these identities, and a lot of inherent power in the role of Therapist, and I try to be very intentional about recognizing that. I’m a professional, but I’m not The Expert; rather, I believe that YOU are the expert on your own life.
