OCD Counseling is intended to help you tolerate your anxiety and to reduce your need to repeat certain patterns in your life. The goal in therapy is to give you better and healthier tools to manage your OCD and get back in charge. Together, you and I will learn about different facets of OCD and work toward redefining the path you are on. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which are both evidence-based treatment for anxiety disorders.

Together, we will work on helping you break free from the vicious cycle of attack and isolation, and instead build connection and healthy attachment. In relationships, we move away from each other when we recycle old arguments. In couple’s therapy, you will achieve a true sense of closure and let go of resentment so that there is safety, trust, and honesty in the relationship to be vulnerable and rely on each other.

The fundamental principle of CBT proposes that our thoughts affect our emotions, which affect our behaviors. You will learn to uncover underlying thoughts, attitudes and belief systems you may have that are unhealthy, negative or rigid. Once we identify these unhealthy thought patterns our goal is to find ways to challenge and reframe them. We will also explore behavioral changes to support your new way of thinking and at times use these action goals to challenge your thoughts.

DBT successfully combines the principles of CBT and mindfulness to teach you better ways to regulate your emotions, set healthy boundaries, have firm communication skills and tolerate stressful situations. This approach will teach you to how opposite things can co-exist, such as acceptance & change. While learning to accept things the way they are, you can still work towards changing the aspect of self that is not helping you.

MBSR offers mindfulness and body awareness techniques to help you better regulate and manage your emotions. Mindfulness will teach you ways to pause, observe and be non-judgmental of your inner experiences. By bringing awareness to the present moment you can learn ways to be more accepting and grateful.
