About My Clients
Do you recognize the importance of working with a culturally responsive therapist who understands how to turn adversity into strength? If you’re dealing with stressors, you need coping skills relevant to you. I serve individuals experiencing challenges as they journey through transitions such as adolescence, young adulthood and becoming new parents. Through the use of mindfulness-based strategies, I can help you overcome fear, anxiety and worries associated with major and minor life changes.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Since 1998, I’ve helped individuals, families and communities create positive lasting change. I earned my Master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Services Administration. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I have extensive expertise in management of Mood and Anxiety disorders. For those struggling to heal from trauma, grief and loss, and apathy, I am here for you. I am skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I employ culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate, strength-based approaches as I help guide my clients towards improved mental health and wellness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I understand that individuals must discover their best solutions by recognizing their own strengths and talents, and using them to reach the best and fullest potential in life. It is with this understanding and belief that I provide therapy to help my clients galvanize their resources to overcome adversity and challenges. Often times, a person’s mental anguish and distress is rooted in cultural, social and economic determinants that are beyond their control. I model cultural humility when working with all my clients so as to not traumatize and to establish trust. Within the therapeutic alliance, I believe my clients must feel safe to be their authentic selves. I encourage my clients to explore their full histories within the context of where they are now.
