About My Clients
Many of the people I work with are capable and accomplished in much of their lives but keep running into the same trouble in relationships: the same fights with a partner, too much distance or too little separation from family, friction with bosses or colleagues. Some also struggle with anxiety, depression, burnout, or sleep. I also have a specialty in working with adoptees, including those in search and reunion or who have recently learned they are adopted.
My Background and Approach
I’ve been practicing since 2007 and hold an MSW from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. I have trained in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center and in Modern Group Analysis at the Center for Group Studies. My approach is psychodynamic, drawing on Modern and Relational Psychoanalysis. In practice, this means we look not only at what’s happening in your life now but at where it began, and at how old patterns show up between us in the room, where they can be seen clearly and worked with directly. You may pick up some new coping strategies along the way, but the aim is to understand and change what lies underneath. Because I work with individuals, couples, and groups, I can help you think about which setting fits what you’re facing, or whether a combination would help. I see people in person in Greenwich Village and by telehealth in New York, Vermont, and Florida.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I welcome people of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship structures, abilities, ages, and economic backgrounds. Each of us is shaped by many identities at once, and how they fit together, or sometimes pull against one another, can be an important part of the work. I approach all of this with respect and curiosity, and without assumptions about what any part of your identity should mean to you.
