About My Clients
Often, couples come after they have gotten to a point of being polarized. They feel so much frustration, anger, and disappointment, that it’s hard to remember anything that they enjoy about one another, and they feel like they are unable to have their partner really hear them. I create a space for both parties to identify their needs, get validation and engage in a “non-judgemental curiosity” about what their partner needs, what they need and how to support each other in getting their needs met.
My Background and Approach
Melissa is a Clinical Social Worker. She completed her Masters of Clinical Social Work at Boston College. For the last 15 years she has cultivated her expertise on relationship/attachment issues, as well as, perinatal mental health, working with both couples and individuals. She recently worked with active military and their spouses, providing individual and couples therapy and has also collaborated with various schools to provide parenting support classes. Melissa’s approach to therapy is solution focused, extremely dynamic and highly collaborative. She believes in the importance of authenticity and its value to the therapeutic relationship. When we feel confident and connected, it enables us to do extraordinary things; yet when our relationship to ourselves or others becomes fragmented, we become unable to thrive, and find ourselves simply surviving. This job of life is simply too important to settle for just surviving.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
By breaking down barriers to effective and solution-focused communication, partners are able to reconnect and embrace a “team” mentality as opposed to a “me vs. you” mentality.
