About My Clients
You're functioning, showing up, and handling what needs to be handled, but your mind and body rarely clock out. You may be replaying conversations, anticipating what could go wrong, grieving a loss, or tracking everyone's needs but your own. I work with adults and caregivers, including neurodivergent adults, parents of children with medical or special needs, and first responders and their spouses. You've gotten good at adapting. You're ready for it to require less of you.
My Background and Approach
I'm Melissa Parrish, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing online therapy across New Jersey. I hold specialized credentials in autism spectrum disorders (ASDCS), clinical trauma (CCTP), and grief (CGP). My approach is practical, collaborative, and tailored to you. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered and humanistic therapy, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation work. Together, we'll connect what's happening in your thoughts, body, relationships, and daily life, explore how patterns developed, and practice responding differently. Some sessions make room for grief or experiences you've had little opportunity to process. Others focus on expectations you hold yourself to, boundaries, or concrete tools you can use right away. We'll work toward changes that hold up under the actual pressures of your life, without pretending those demands will disappear.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe being good at handling a lot doesn't mean it isn't costing you. You can be capable, caring, and dependable and still need room to be supported yourself. Your experiences deserve to be understood in context: the responsibilities you carry, the relationships that matter to you, your identity, and the circumstances you can't simply change. Therapy should make room for all of that, including grief others may not recognize and needs you've learned to put aside. You don't need the right words or a tidy explanation to begin. I'm used to meeting people in the middle of it. I value curiosity, collaboration, and respect for your perspective, and I want you to have a say in what our work looks like. My goal is to help you move beyond just pushing through, so handling what life asks of you doesn't take everything you've got, without waiting for life to get easier first.
