About My Clients
I help women & queer folks who are navigating big changes in midlife like dating, divorce, late diagnosis, or evolving belief systems. I’ve been there, dug myself out, & became a therapist to help others. People who work with me are generally focused on healing their pain & building strong, fulfilling relationships. If you're tired of performing a version of yourself that's defined by others, then consider therapy with someone who’s lived this journey firsthand. (Spoiler! That’s me!)
My Background and Approach
What happens in therapy is all about YOU, the therapy client, and at the same time, I’ll be showing up as the Real Me so that we can build a good, strong therapeutic relationship. I’m more of a “Take Your Shoes Off-Cussing in Session” therapist than an “Assigning Homework-Structured Approach” one. Neither is better or worse – what’s important is what you’re looking for. I redesigned my life after being defined by conservative purity culture & cis/hetero/mono/normative patriarchy. I believe therapy is inherently political and I’m happy to share other aspects of my identity and lived experience, so please feel free to ask. My approach focuses on creating emotional safety and comfort in order to build connection. I try to be a therapist with whom clients feel comfortable both laughing and crying with but also trust to be honest with them in a no-bullshit kind of way. Theoretically, I lean humanistic and existential and pull from ACT and DBT where appropriate.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I was raised in purity culture, married young, and spent most of my adult years crammed into a small box by all The Shoulds that surrounded me. Political events eventually shattered the veil of obedience and obligation I wore, and I began to emerge into the person I am today. Along the way, three wise women (each a mental health professional herself) helped me learn about myself, grow as a person, and eventually, I built the confidence to completely change my life. Part of that change was going back to school to become a therapist to help people who are going through the same things I did. Therapy is inherently political & our mental health is affected by the systems that surround us. People are often pushed into supporting roles in their own stories & are required to perform a version of themselves that is created by and for others. I'm passionate about creating space for people to explore who they are and who they want to be.
