About My Clients
Melissa Garcia-Martinez is a licensed clinical social worker with 20+ years of experience in counseling. She has worked with a range of topics and primarily focuses on depression, anxiety, panic attacks, self-esteem, and women's issues. Her approach is supportive, kind, and caring. She uses interventions from different modalities but specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy.
My Background and Approach
I believe in taking a cognitive-based, solution-focused approach in my practice. Thoughts are powerful! We are what we think and what we tell ourselves. Working together with my client, I help unravel these thoughts and bring them to your awareness through a supportive and caring approach. I work at the client's pace and believe that developing a strong rapport and therapeutic relationship is key. Clients feel safe to explore these challenges and become more mindful of alternative ways to cope in a confidential, nonjudgmental, and safe space. I develop a treatment plan and goals with my client's feedback in mind and assign homework to reinforce what is discussed in sessions. Clients can expect to learn new skills to use when dealing with their challenges and reaching their therapy goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Working on yourself is your best investment and the goal of therapy is to create lasting changes that bring you to a happier, more fulfilling point in your life. You will be in a safe, positive, and nonjudgmental environment where we will take our time diving deeper into repetitive patterns that may be the cause of the stressors you are experiencing. Change may feel scary and uncomfortable at first, but that only means you are growing and learning more about yourself, bringing you one step closer to living your best life!
