About My Clients
You may have experienced trauma as a child or an adult. You may be struggling with work, family or other life stressors. Your family may need help communicating and maintaining boundaries. Your child may struggle with coping, self regulation or following directions. Maybe your child is recovering from a trauma. As a parent you may need skills to manage challenging child behaviors. Maybe there are parent/child relationship concerns. I look forward to continuing to help people in these areas.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in the mental health field for 20 years and as a therapist for 10 years. I have worked in behavioral health day programs and group homes for adults and children. I have additional training in EMDR and parent child psychotherapy. I approach therapy from a whole health, person centered approach. I seek to help through a compassionate and authentic approach, meeting you where you are at without judgement. I will educate and encourage you to use new ways of thinking and acting to improve overall individual, child, parent and/or family wellness. I acknowledge that change is difficult and respond with compassion and understanding while also challenging you to expand your comfort zone so you can seek out peace. Focus in therapy can be developing distress tolerance, minimizing stress, managing anxiety and depression, developing assertiveness and self-acceptance, setting boundaries, improving relationships and coping with adult and/or childhood trauma.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that there is good in everyone and that everyone deserves the best life possible. We all have negative experiences and everyone's experience is their own. There is no trouble, trauma or stressor too small for therapy. If it bothers you enough to cause any amount of distress in your life, therapy can help. Unfortunately, we don't always develop safe and healthy ways to deal with stressors which in turn can cause additional problems. I myself have struggled with trauma, stress and unhealthy coping skills and understand the discomfort one can experience. I believe respect for your personal experience is important to helping people feel comfortable. Fun facts about me, I grew up in a cold state and learned to enjoy the heat of southern Arizona. I was a military spouse and lived outside the country and understand the stressors that being out of your "element". I am a mom of three grown children and understand the challenges of parenting a difficult child. Finally, I love desserts!
