About My Clients
Often, my clients find themselves in circumstances or environments in which they do not feel understood or seen. The sometimes think no one will ever really 'get' them. This could be because of a lifestyle, religion, or just generally who they feel they are as a person. Many have been afraid to reach out previously. They hope to someday find that one place or person who won't judge them, but rather sit with them through the muck. You've found it. Welcome home.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from Ottawa University with a Master's in Professional Counseling (and an undergrad in Psychology), and worked for a time in group practice in Cheyenne, WY, before moving back home to KC. I love to find creative ways to work with clients. It's not unusual for me to practice mindfulness or relaxation exercises during a session with a client, or to incorporate the things a client wishes to into a session. My approach to a session is really just to have a conversation. I educate about the mechanisms at play, normalize emotions, and work with you to find practical things you can immediately use. Call me and let's see how we can work together!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in boundaries and learning them well. I don't discriminate, but I do work best with people from an open minded approach to life and a non-fundamentalist religious view. I believe that sex work is work. I believe that kink is not always a direct result of trauma, and if it is, it can still be healthy. I do not believe it's wholly a dysfunctional symptom of trauma. I believe in the balance of feminine/masculine energy. I believe ADHD is a pain in my backside, especially when I get stuck in hyperfocus. I also believe it is incredibly difficult to write about what I believe, because your visit to me is about YOU, not me. I have experienced many of the things people seek me out for, which brings an extra level of empathy and understanding and connection.
