You are more than the speeding train of your mind. You are more than the eggshell of your body. You are you and that is enough.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in WESTBROOK, ME
I am fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy with years of experience. I work with my clients to ensure they feel safe enough to navigate trauma using tools from DBT, CBT, Mindfulness and Internal Family Systems.
As a human who has lived with chronic illness for most of my life, I understand the frustrations and self doubt caused by an invalidating medical system, the struggles of navigating each day with unpredictable symptoms, and the isolation of advocating for yourself with doctors, friends and family. I truly believe in arming yourself with knowledge, becoming your own doctor, and listening to your body. Mindfulness and self-compassion are the mainstays of living with chronic illness.
Anxiety is a natural state in humans. Some of us are wired to be more anxious than others and it can get in the way of doing the things we want. Struggling against anxiety is no better than fighting for peace. It only makes it worse. Mindful acceptance, breathwork and changing our thoughts can soothe the nervous system and help us overcome our fears to create a life worth living.
I have many years of experience with DBT and mindfulness based approaches. DBT is a wonderful approach to life for anyone. It incorporates the skills necessary to successfully navigate life including balancing the mind, engaging fully in life with presence, fostering connection and healthy boundaries and practical skills for managing intense emotions. It is a "must-have" approach for those who are highly sensitive.
I have trained with the Beck Institute for CBT. Aaron Beck is the founder of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT represented a massive shift from the formative psychodynamic approaches in psychotherapy to an approach that focuses on changing negative thinking patterns and taking action to better your life.
I am fully trained in Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy. EMDR is a powerful, evidence based approach to treating trauma. This is a therapy that helps to shift deeply ingrained negative beliefs into more adaptive ones. EMDR helps to develop insight and awareness into the self. It can get to the root cause of anxiety, depression and life difficulties in a way that talk therapy cannot. It is truly one of the most powerful tools for getting unstuck in life.
