About My Clients
Anxiety might exist on its own, or it may be connected to life changes and relational conflicts. You may experience anxiety as general worries that seem to get stuck in a repetitive thought process, or through symptoms like increased heart rate, difficulty sleeping, or shallow breathing. I know this experience myself, and I also know that change is possible. Therapy is a place to explore the root of your anxiety, learn skills to regulate, and develop strategies to maintain a sense of peace.
My Background and Approach
I am an Austin native and attended The University of Texas (hook em!) before completing my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Sam Houston State University. I am an LPC-Associate, under the supervision of Dr. Evelyn Fitzgerald, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S. I approach therapy from a person-centered perspective, meaning I will first seek to understand who you are and what matters to you as we get to know one another. From there, I will offer education surrounding the symptoms you’re experiencing, give you new ways to approach your difficulties, and work with you to create the changes you desire. Sometimes we’ll process past experiences, other times we’ll focus on the present moment or future possibilities. Therapy is a joint effort between the two of us, and I hope to facilitate a space where we can connect, collaborate, and celebrate your growth together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
While I have my own personal beliefs that guide my life, my overall goal as a therapist is to learn and understand your beliefs so that I may counsel you from that perspective to the best of my ability. If you identify with a religion, community, or people group that is important to you and impacts your health and wellness, I'll seek to incorporate this perspective into our work together. I like to spend my time outdoors, at a coffee shop, or with a book or movie at home. I love spending time with friends and family and enjoy traveling. My most recent trip was to the Oregon coast where my friends and I hiked, found waterfalls, and enjoyed some surprisingly sunny days on the beach.
