About My Clients

My clients are an array of adults and teens, many of whom are seeking to improve their relationship with food and their bodies. Understanding that disordered eating and substance abuse are only symptoms, it is anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relational struggles that they are really coming to work on. My clients prefer a therapist who is approachable and "real." They value direction, new ideas and humor balanced with just having a space to be heard and cared for as they are.

My Background and Approach

Meghan's style can be described as warm and collaborative. She utilizes humor and believes the client/therapist relationship is the cornerstone of the healing that occurs through therapy. Meghan is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but also borrows from Client-Centered and Family Systems theories. Meghan holds an MS in Mental Health Counseling from The University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of PA and a Certified Health Coach trained in Health at Every Size (HAES). Meghan has worked for The Renfrew Center and was the Director of an Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders for several years before beginning her own private practice over a decade ago. Meghan has also worked in Drug & Alcohol rehabilitation treatment centers and has spent over a decade teaching graduate level courses in counseling at The University of Pennsylvania.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

We live in a society where people compare themselves to others constantly and are being sold SO many things with the false promise of happiness (including food). People work all the time, diet, and (sometimes) amass wealth, only to find that they still feel empty. People get trapped in these addictions, but they still don't feel better. Therapy is a time out from all of this. A safe space to be seen as you really are and work through your own personal values and ambitions. Therapy is a place to practice being vulnerable with others. Therapy is a place to reconnect with yourself and your body. What people really crave when they crave food, thinness, alcohol, drugs, etc is connection with others. Feelings loved and accepted and special. The journey toward feeling this way, therefore, cannot be achieved alone, and that is part of why therapy works. I'd love to have a conversation to see if working together could benefit you, so please don't hesitate to reach out!
