About My Clients
I work with clients who have experienced a wide range of traumas in their life, but the most common being sexual assault and domestic violence. While these are the most common, the areas I feel particularly set me apart are narcissist abuse, religious trauma, emotional neglect, and DID. I have extensive work with people who are recovering from a narcissistic parents or partner. I have worked with people who are deconstructing religious upbringings, as well as leaving various cults.
My Background and Approach
I have an LCSW and received my Master's Degree in Social Work in 2018. My first job in social work was as a therapist at a community mental health center that focuses on addiction. While I love this work and still work with this population occasionally, this is is also where I got my experience working with trauma. I believe the true gateway drug to addiction is trauma and healing the core issue is important to addressing substance use disorders. In 2020 I was trained in EMDR and have been practicing this modality ever since. EMDR isn't just something I use for clients, but I have used and benefited from it deeply myself. Due to being trained in S.A.F.E. EMDR, I am particularly skilled in helping clients identify traumas that traditional EMDR can miss. These are typically "small t" traumas that are truly formative to ones world and self view, as well as the trauma of "what didn't happen" (particularly emotional neglect).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Prior to this I worked in ministry and as a missionary in various parts of the world. I stepped away from religion in 2014 due to the church clashing with my values in regards to LGBTQ, women, and many other topics. While I am now agnostic, my love of cultures and travel persists and I'm still able to work with Christians due to my vast knowledge on the Bible. In undergrad I was was a sociology and religious studies minor. I believe having a broad understanding of different worldviews is important in my work, but I'm also more interested in what those views mean to my clients specifically. Much of this is due to my own experience being a cisgender, heterosexual female, but not prescribing to the expectations of that role. I am unmarried and childfree by choice and support everyone's decision on what they want their life to look like.
