About My Clients
Folks reach out to me for a variety of reasons surrounding adjustment to parenthood. Maybe you’re a mom struggling with all of the changes postpartum, you’re a dad feeling more irritable than you’d like, you’re crying or worrying a lot, having difficulty bonding with your baby, missing your independence, you experienced a loss or scary birth, have difficulty meeting your own needs, or don't feel like yourself as an expectant parent, a new parent, or an experienced parent.
My Background and Approach
In my 10th year of providing psychotherapy, and my 5th year specializing in perinatal work, I bring clinical experience, personal experience of parenthood, and extensive training with experts in the field of perinatal mental health. But beyond that I bring support and hope as we work together to create a path forward using practical and emotional tools. My goal is for you to flourish in each aspect of your identity and to feel more connected & grounded and less burdened & overwhelmed. We tend to have many expectations about parenthood and need help adjusting when things don't go to plan. In fact, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (such as postpartum depression) are the #1 complication of childbirth. They also impact non-birthing parents at a significant rate. I can provide coping skills for managing emotional distress, as well as processing and support to help you move through the emotional complexities of parenthood.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am very passionate about providing therapy and support during the life-changing season of family-building. Each and every person approaches the transition to parenthood differently depending on their backgrounds, histories, expectations, and hopes. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (depression, bipolar, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, etc in pregnancy and postpartum) are common, but not commonly discussed, and many do not seek professional help. I want folks to know that counseling is available and addressing mental health has shown to improve outcomes of individuals, children, and families.
