I have extensive training and experience with CBT. I often integrate CBT into my work with clients who would benefit from learning skills to challenge and reframe negative or irrational thoughts. I also specialize in a type of CBT called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for specific anxiety disorders such as OCD, panic attacks, social anxiety, and specific phobias.

I was heavily trained in psychodynamic theory through my coursework in graduate school, as well in my residency at Carnegie Mellon's University Counseling Center. Psychodynamic therapy is useful for those who would benefit from building insight and awareness into themselves, their relationships with others, and past experiences and traumas. By building insight and making connections, meaningful change is experienced in an organic way.

I received most of my CBT training at George Mason's Center for Community Health, as well as during my postdoctoral fellowship where I trained in a type of CBT called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for specific anxiety disorders such as OCD, panic attacks, social anxiety, and specific phobias. My expertise in DBT comes from my work at a brief inpatient hospital in D.C. called the Psychiatric Institute of Washington. I often integrate DBT skills in my work with clients who would benefit from skills to better regulate emotion, be more present/mindful, tolerate distress, and improve their interactions with others.

For some, it's learning new skills and more adaptive ways of coping, and for others it's building meaningful insight and awareness. I often take an integrative approach, working collaboratively to figure out what treatment interventions you'd benefit the most from.

The gold standard treatment is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which involves restructuring thought patterns/obsessions while simultaneously eliminating behavioral or mental rituals/compulsions. ERP is typically an extremely effective treatment approach for the majority of clients struggling with OCD and related anxiety disorders.

Our relationships and ways of relating to others are how we derive meaning and purpose. If you're struggling in your relationships, therapy can help you to better understand your reactions, underlying beliefs/fears, and relational patterns, while also helping you to break cycles and develop more effective ways of getting your emotional needs met.
