About My Clients
My clients typically express concerns related to eating disorders, body image, or infertility. They find their minds and emotions are overrun with sadness, longing, anxiety. Clients often come to me having tried a number of approaches on their own or with other providers and feel at a loss or are even hesitant to start therapy. Many clients have worked to find solutions but find those solutions hard to implement until their emotions are explored and softened. I would love to be of help.
My Background and Approach
I have over 18 years of experience providing treatment to clients of varied backgrounds and in multiple settings. I specialize in treating individuals who express concerns about their eating or who feel dissatisfied with their bodies, including individuals with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder. I have worked with individuals as well as couples and families at the inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels. Prior to entering private practice I held a faculty appointment at UNC Chapel Hill, where I also obtained my doctoral degree. I also specialize in treating those who are enduring infertility or pregnancy loss. I use my background in research and compassion-based therapies to process difficult experiences and to hold space for both loss and hope. I am a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. My primary approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we are delightfully complex people who all deserve a chance to be seen and heard. We can't hold everything ourselves - and I believe not only people but nature and the wider world can help us witness and bear our burdens. I appreciate being outdoors in my spare time, taking in what the natural world has to offer. She is plentiful.
