About My Clients
I have worked with adolescents, adults, and seniors in various settings. My clinical internships provided me with the opportunity to work with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, exposure to trauma, grief, self-harm, co-occurring disorders, and identity/role fit crises. I also have a soft spot in my heart for working with members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My Background and Approach
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Rice University, and completed my Master in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington, with a specialization in Mental Health. My clinical experience in both in-patient and clinic settings gave me the opportunity to work with individuals with a wide range of mental and behavioral health issues, and I volunteered as a crisis line specialist for several years and spoke with individuals in crises from all walks of life. My goals as a therapist are: to provide you with a safe space to tell your story, to support you as we work together to identify challenges and create goals, and help you tap into your strengths and skills to reach those goals. I use different types of therapies - including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. This allows me to tailor our work to your individual needs, goals, and strengths.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all humans are capable of growth and that each person possesses the strengths and skills to overcome life’s obstacles. In difficult times, understanding and accessing those strengths can be very challenging. I also believe that there are many people who struggle because they are marginalized, and that fighting for social justice for marginalized groups has always and will always be very important to me. I support Black Lives Matter, the LGBTQ+ community, the refugee community, and women, and I stand by them and other marginalized communities as we struggle through this trying time in our country.
