Therapy tools I find to be most helpful for depression include but are not limited to behavioral activation (finding and doing small wins throughout the day), affirmations to build self-esteem, cognitive reframing, and overall adjustment to daily routine (sleep, meals, work/life balance, etc.) I do not believe in a 'one-size-fits-all' approach, so I depend on you to tell me what is working and not working for you.

My approach to assisting anxiety often includes a mix of body relaxation tools and cognitive reframing. We can practice some of the relaxation techniques together in session, or you are welcome to practice independently on your own time. However, when it comes to my approach to anxiety -- I am a strong believer in breaking the anxiety loop, which ends being confronting avoidance. Be ready to face your fears! If this sounds scary, I will walk alongside you throughout the process.

While I am not an older adult myself, I have taken trainings on how to best serve this population. The aging community is underserved, so I have made it a priority to offer a safe space for this community. Aging concerns can look different for each person - grief, loss of mobility, depression, fears, body dysmorphia, isolation, etc. My approach will be to listen and help you fall back on what has worked for you in the past, while occasionally teaching new skills. You are the expert on you!

CBT is one of the most popular forms of therapy used, so naturally I learned of it in school and have been practicing it ever since. I regularly utilize cognitive reframing and provide psychoeducation on how thoughts impact behaviors impact feelings. It can be truly transformative for some people, but not everyone. I love finding what can be the best modality for my clients and providing a mix of what will meet their needs.

For 2 years, I was on the board for a DBT group where I received firsthand experience learning the skills and format of DBT. My current approach to DBT includes the skill-building piece solely which covers a mix of interpersonal, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness skills. I love the structured skills that DBT provides and love bringing these step-by-step skills to session to provide clarity for clients.

Like DBT, I was lucky enough to help lead an ACT group where I received firsthand experience on the true practice of this therapy modality. I truly feel this modality encompasses my preferred therapy approach - mindfulness, allowing ourselves to feel emotions, exploring our values, and learning to accept our true self! This modality can be amazingly transformative, while also providing wonderful empowerment along the way.
