About My Clients
Folks often go to therapy looking for answers. Why am I feeling stuck? Why can't I turn my brain off? Why don't I like myself? I specialize in affirming therapy for the LGBTQ+ community. I want you to feel safe, seen, and supported while we work toward your goals. If you're not feeling affirmed in who you are by a therapist you are supposed to trust, then what is the point of being vulnerable?
My Background and Approach
My approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, which means establishing a strong, empathetic therapeutic relationship is a critical element of my practice. If you can't trust me -- then you might as well be opening up to people on the bus. I view the world through a feminist and anti-colonial lens. These principles are always present as I utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) techniques, but my goal is to find the tools that work best for you. Therapy isn't a copy/paste process. I'm ready to meet you where you are to triage what is blocking you from accessing better mental health in your regular life. From there we can explore the deeper meanings of how you think, how you feel, and how you tolerate those feelings.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Before becoming a professional yapper, my career was centered on social justice communications and digital organizing. I'm incredibly passionate about justice and that drives my practice as a psychotherapist. I also strongly believe in the power of humor to heal. There is a growing body of literature on the positive impact humor has on the therapeutic process. Besides, if you can't laugh at yourself, how are you going to laugh at anything else?
