About My Clients

Parts of you make decisions and act on your behalf without your permission, you feel confused and ashamed about it and want this to change but don't know how. It wasn't me who chose the thing that caused consequences, it was something or someone else inside of me who jumped into the driver's seat. You feel alienated from self and others, misunderstood, alone - but are you? In reality, everyone has these inner conflicts, and therapy is a great place to sort this all out to reach more balance.

My Background and Approach

I have a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara, a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Santa Barbara. I worked at Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM) for about 5 years, where I was trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), and interventions with sexually abusive youth. Those five years gave me a wide range of experience working with children, teenagers, families, parents, and couples where trauma was the central problem everyone was dealing with. My personal background in growing up in a low-income housing project, around lots of drug and alcohol abuse, violence and instability, may have prepared me to work with people in crisis and interpersonal struggle more than my clinical background. These experiences are never the center of my work with clients, but I'm happy to share more if it builds trust and helps you get to a more balanced place on your own journey.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

What I believe in personally can be demonstrated through some examples of action I've taken in my free time over the last 10 years or so: Starting a climate justice group, co-founding a tenants union, co-founding a podcast about how extreme economic inequality impacts mental health (podcast is called It's Not Just In Your Head). I'm also a union organizing trainer with the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). I have absolutely no problem working with people who hold right wing views, and in fact really enjoy it.
