Accepting Clients

I believe what is most healing about good therapy is the opportunity for client and therapist to foster genuine intimacy with each other.

About My Clients

I believe everyone has the capacity to change and evolve. I see my job as a therapist to be like walking through the woods next to you with a flashlight, helping to create a clearer path to a life that feels more vibrant and pleasurable. I assist couples in replacing patterns of conflict with new ways of communicating that lead to increased intimacy and relationship satisfaction.

My Background and Approach

Clients often tell me that my pace is slow and deliberate. Slowness, in my experience, is what helps bring emotion alive. I enjoy helping clients form deeper access to their emotional worlds, understand why certain emotions have felt unsafe to explore on their own, and exist more freely and openly in their relationships. As a therapist, I work relationally. I am as invested in what you bring into the therapy room — the content, the stories, the hardships you are eager to be less alone with — as I am in how it feels to be in connection together. I received my Master’s Degree in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Colorado Denver. I have done training in attachment-based modalities, including Emotionally Focused Therapy and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. I also have experience and training in culturally responsive sex therapy.

Why I Became a Therapist

If we work together, you will hear me talk about "emotion regulation." Just as our bodies send us signals to put on an extra layer when we are cold, we get messages from our bodies when we need emotional care or attention. Every person, regardless of social location, class or creed, can benefit from forming clearer access to their emotions and "tuning in" when their nervous system is signaling that they are in distress. And when individual people devote themselves to this effort, the positive impact ripples -- from the individual to their relationships to their communities. When my clients tune into their emotional experience, I watch them get clearer about how they want to live, the kinds of relationships they want to be in, and the parts of themselves that have felt distant or abandoned. I have a strong belief in this work and its ability to have a positive impact on your life. Please me about emotion regulation in your consult!
