About My Clients
Are you feeling sad or anxious about the current state of the world? Are you struggling to find meaning and purpose in a culture of increasing distraction, divisiveness, and uncertainty? I can empathize. Let me help you make sense of and figure out your way forward. I specialize in existential concerns, depression, anxiety, life transitions and losses, trauma, and psychedelic integration. While I work with all sexual orientations and genders, I specialize in LGBTQ individuals and couples.
My Background and Approach
I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 16 years, beginning with individuals recovering from substance dependence to adults impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. During my doctoral training at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and through extensive continuing education since, I have come to develop an active style as a therapist, not afraid to offer my insight, advice (when appropriate), and reflection. My clients tend to appreciate this style, as it allows them to take something concrete from our sessions, in addition to feeling heard and understood. Through this approach, I will help you raise your self-awareness, identify tools and strategies to better manage your thoughts and emotions, and feel more confident in the world.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I strongly believe in the power of psychotherapy to create lasting self awareness and change. While life can be confusing and painful at times, our relationship with ourself helps us thrive. When we know who we are and believe in our capacity, we learn to use agency to create a life worth living. Finding consistent meaning and purpose can be a tall order in a culture that seems to feel more and more distracting, divisive, and uncertain. I believe that tools such as mindfulness, meditation, flow, and other lifestyle behaviors can help us hone in on our own personal meaning and purpose. As a gay man myself, I am passionate about working with the LGBTQ community. I fondly remember two finominal therapists I had in my twenties who helped usher me through difficult times in my life of navigating the complexities of a gay urban community and dealing with my internalized homophobia. Those experiences in therapy profoundly shaped who I am today, including my desire to help others.
