About My Clients
I have extensive experience working with the veteran and LGBTQIA+ population. My approach is suitable for those who are new to therapy or those who have been in therapy before and are looking for a different experience.
My Background and Approach
I use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients connect with what matters to them and learn how to hold and respond better to the pain and bumps that life brings. In ACT, all humans are struggling in our own way, but all of us are also whole and enough as we are. It’s not us that needs to change, it’s how we hold and respond to our experiences that we can work on. I firmly believe we’re all doing the best with what we have. I have been fortunate to be both a consultant and trainer to other providers learning ACT. This has really helped my clinical work too!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the value of community. I believe that the relentless push of individualism is not adherent to our nature as humans. I believe that a community is about caring for, protecting, and helping others grow. Community is not about judgment, gatekeeping, or shame. I strive in my life to reflect on the biases I see and, with humility, contribute to making the lives of the people in my community better. My community is not just the people I know well or who live nearby - it’s the people I interact with in my day-to-day life and it’s those who may be homeless, discriminated against, and marginalized. In my professional life I have worked extensively with veterans and homeless populations. In my personal life, I have forged deep and valuable bonds in the local refugee community. That’s my idea of community.
