About My Clients

I can assist with many of life's difficulties, and you are a great fit if any of the following apply to you: You are struggling to find meaning or how to determine next steps after leaving a religious group. You are contemplating making changes to your substance use but not quite ready to commit to treatment. You are experiencing relationship issues, especially nontraditional forms. You are experiencing impacts to your quality of life due to anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns.

My Background and Approach

My approach to counseling centers around identifying the things that matter the most to you and the strengths and abilities you’ve used to survive in this life so far, creating a safe space to look more closely at the difficult areas of life that don’t appear to have easy answers. I see therapy as a healing and creative process, where my training and knowledge act as a mirror to help you unlock your own expertise on yourself. I have over five years of outpatient counseling experience, including individual counseling and group therapy facilitation. My experience includes mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and process addiction treatment (gambling, technology, etc.), and crisis management and intervention. I ascribe to a humanistic-existentialist philosophy and utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I also incorporate mindfulness and somatic-based skills from a neuroscience-informed basis.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My practice is affirming to all people, with particular awareness of the unique ways religion and spirituality have impacted LGBTQ people. I am familiar with the particular concerns transgender individuals face, and the transitioning process. I am open to clients who practice diverse relationships styles (polyamory, kink/BDSM). I strive to maintain cultural humility, both by remaining active in my education around diverse populations, and by being open to and welcoming critical feedback.
