About My Clients
My ideal client may be new to therapy, exploring their options, or frustrated by their prior attempts to get help. They may also need an objective perspective regarding their present functioning , interpersonal style, and how they show up for the world. My ideal client is also interested in help that is attuned to their unique cultural experience without needing to translate themselves to be understood. Ultimately, my ideal client wants to examine themselves and explore new ways of 'being'.
My Background and Approach
I have been actively engaged in the healing profession for over 25 years. My services focus on empowering people to overcome their present situation and equipping them to lead more productive, abundant lives. My superpower is a keen ability to listen, understand, and help others recognize their own internal strengths to improve their lives. I have trained and utilized a variety of modalities to help clients such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, trauma sensitive approaches, motivational interviewing, and biblical counseling for those with a similar faith. I approach each client by conducting a comprehensive assessment via tools, interview, and observation. I utilize this information to develop an understanding of the issues you may be experiencing. I then collaborate with you to devise an appropriate course of treatment. Being well versed in a variety of modalities enables me to tailor a treatment plan that is aligned with the client's specific needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As an African American woman who has 'lived life' experiences with racial trauma, I am acutely aware of how these experiences impact every aspect of my life. I have researched the wide reaching impact this can have on my body, relationships, professional career, family, and financial resources, to name a few. I am also aware of how to successfully cope with this impact while navigating life's journey and I think this experiences equips me to be a powerful advocate for clients. It is vitally important to utilize our best cultural resources such as faith, resiliency, creativity, connectivity, and sheer fierceness to explore our current functioning and to develop effective tools to grow ourselves emotionally and spiritually to meet the challenges that life presents. I combine this awareness with my clinical training to join with you in the challenge of securing help for yourself.
